Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions International House, St. Georges Terrace, Perth - Completed 2007

By moving to International House, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has moved into the Courts Precinct of Perth, close to the new CBD Courts and the existing Central Law Courts. The DPP now occupy 9 of the 18 floors of the refurbished building. Oldfield Knott Architects designed the new fit-out, providing room for growth in an energy efficient building whose landlord has upgraded all building services.

Sustainability measures were undertaken in all aspects of design, from electrical and air-conditioning services design to the selection of carpet tiles.

Our design for the DPP’s fit-out used colour themes to identify pairs of floors, and the corresponding teams occupying those floors. The colour-coded floor differentiation begins with the colour-coded mosaic carpet tile pattern in each lift lobby.

The accommodation requirements for the DPP and Department of the Attorney General (DotAG) are diverse, ranging from open plan offices to three floors of enclosed offices for DPP prosecutors. There are a number of highly specialised areas with particular security requirements, including Hearing Rooms and Court Records. These particular security requirements, and given the building’s proximity to the Central Law Courts and new CBD Courts buildings, required Oldfield Knott’s involvement in all aspects of the security requirements for the fit-outs including access control, electronic security and surveillance services.

This project’s success garnered further State Government fit-out projects for Oldfield Knott Architects in the of the same building, including accommodation for: the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal; the Victim-Offender Mediation Unit; and Courts Services.
