Fremantle Hospital Coronary Care Unit and Catheter Recovery WardAlma Street, Fremantle - Completed 2010

The New CCU and Catheter Recovery Ward project consisted of the internal stripping and extensive demolition of a vacant ward within Fremantle Hospital and the construction and internal fit-out of the new ward. Oldfield Knott Architects were awarded the commission to design, document and administer the contract. Indeed, since the success of this commission Oldfield Knott have been requested to undertake the Refurbishment of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Endoscopy Unit and minor works to the Cardiac Testing Unit at Fremantle Hospital.

The ward consists of six Catheter Recovery Beds, eight CCU beds, four Isolation Rooms with ensuites, administration offices and staff facilities.

Oldfield Knott Architects worked closely with Fremantle Hospital Management and staff to achieve a high level of infection control, patient comfort, accessibility and functionality, visual connection between staff and patients as well as required levels of privacy and isolation. Careful supervision and planning of the construction process was required to ensure minimal disturbance to the adjacent wards and theatres.

The project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule and within budget.
