St Michael's Primary School - BERJames Street, Bassendean - Completed 2011

St Michael’s is on a small and constrained historic site in the town centre of Bassendean. The original two storey convent building has been extended, adding a new two storey Library and Administration building. We have taken the opportunity to position this new building close to James Street in order to enlarge the internal courtyard and lawns.

The project was complicated by site constraints and the need to keep the school functioning whilst utilities (main power supply and fire services) were upgraded and staged demolition and construction works carried out. Our design sustains the quality and character of the historic building.

As intended by the Federal Government’s BER programme, the main building and extensions bring the school to a 21st century standard with excellent facilities for both students and staff.
