St Maria Goretti's Catholic Primary School - BERCorner of Morrison Street & Stanton Street, Redcliffe - Completed 2011

In May 2010, Oldfield Knott Architects was commissioned by St Maria Goretti’s Catholic Primary School, as part of the Federal Government’s BER (Building the Education Revolution) Economic Stimulus Package.

The project was divided into two separate documentation packages to suit the funding criteria:

  • ‘Package A’ comprised the construction of a new enlarged covered area; and
  • ‘Package C’ consisted of the relocation of a building and an extension to an existing classroom block to provide three new General Purpose Learning Areas and associated amenities.

‘Package A’ works involved the complete removal of the existing covered area structure and the construction of a new, substantially enlarged covered area, with the addition of polycarbonate roller-shutters and sections of fixed glazing enabling the new structure to function more effectively.

‘Package C’ firstly involved the relocation of a transportable pre-primary building to the other side of school to accommodate a specialist Art Room. In its place a three classroom extension to an existing block is being constructed to cater for sixty pre-primary students.

The exterior finishes for both packages were selected to match the palette of materials utilised in the existing school, these being red face brickwork, powder coated aluminium window frames, white, painted structural steelwork and Surfmist Colorbond roofing.
