Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School - BERMunday Road, High Wycombe - Completed 2011

In May 2010, Oldfield Knott Architects was commissioned by Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School, as part of the Federal Government’s BER (Building the Education Revolution) Economic Stimulus Package.

The project was divided into two separate documentation packages to suit the funding criteria:

  • ‘Package B’ is the addition of a new computer room to the existing library and a new storeroom; and
  • ‘Package E’, is a substantial extension of the existing under cover area together with minor extensions to covered walkways.

The new ‘Package B’ computer room, designed to accommodate 33 computer stations, as well as a centrally located projector and screen, is required to be secure and sound proof, as the adjoining existing library is used for drama lessons. The new storeroom has separate external access.

‘Package E’ works includes partial demolition of the existing steel frame prior to its enlargement. To make the area more effective as a covered area, polycarbonate roller shutters and fixed windows were introduced.

The exterior finishes for both packages were selected to match the palette of materials utilised in the existing school, being cream face brickwork, white powder coated aluminium window frames, white painted structural steelwork and Surfmist Colorbond.
